World Health Day 2016 : Beat Diabetes


Diabetes Mellitus is a disorder of the endorine system wherby the insulin is not produced or cannot be used by the body.Insulin transports glocose into the body cells,so if there is no insuin the body accumulates the glucose and as  results the blood glucose increases to abnormal levels.

Most common is Type 2 which is mostly related to lifetyle chioces. It mostly occurs to people over 35yrs who are overweight and of late there has been an increase in the number of obese children and teenagers with type 2 diabetes.Type 2 diabetes can be fatal yet deaths from diabetes can be prevented.

Many case of Type 2 diabetes can be prevented by following these simple lifestyle guidelines

 1. Mantain a healthy weight.

There is a strong connection between diabetes and obesity that is why wieght management is one of the top recommendations to prevent diabetes.

2.Adopting a healthy diet

  • Eat lots  vegetables,fruits and whole grains.
    Cutting down on processed foods including sugar
  • Reduce your intake of bad fats
  • Limit the amount of alcohol you take
  • Cut back on salt.
  • Drink plenty of water.

3. Exercise

A minimum of 30 minutes of moderate activity a day is the recomended to mantain good health.

If there is a family history of diabetes,doctors recommend regular screening from the age of 40 so that glucose intolerance can be detected early if present. Once detected, lifestyle changes can be recommended which can  delay or even prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.
